Food Around Town

CREAM Cafe & Bar

We went to Civic in search of brunch one day. The place we planned to go to was….empty. Ok, maybe there was one table occupied. Still, when the eateries around were mostly full and that was empty, I worried. I walked around the nearby restaurants browsing menus and decided upon CREAM.

Several items caught my eyes and it was busy. Gotta be decent, right? Oh, how I forget I’m in Canberra sometimes.

It was brunch, so we started out with coffee, which was fine.

Cappuccino

Latte

Then, the food. Ordering was not the most pleasant experience. First, we waited and waited and waited. Finally had flag down the server to take our order. Then, we made the mistake of asking questions. Like, what type of waffles do they server? Belgium style? (Got blank stare) Thick ones or thin ones? (I don’t know, it’s made in a waffle iron) Ok, we’ll have burgers. Can we get them medium? (They come how they come) Which is what? Medium? Medium rare? Well done? (Cooked….through?) She was giving my a headache so we just got the burgers and sent her away.

Wagyu beef burger – premium beef pattie, buffalo mozzarella, tomato, roquette, smoked paprika & red pepper relish served with fries ($20.90)

Inside of the burger – well done.

Just by looking at the burger, I knew. Though it wasn’t really dry, I don’t like my burgers well done. It’s a crime to do that to wagyu beef (questionable if it’s the real thing). There was absolutely nothing special about this burger. Tasted very average. And those fries. Could have gone to any fast food chain and got better fries. If it’s one of those restaurants where you pay what you think it’s worth, $5 would be generous.

Seriously, I don’t know why I bother to eat out sometimes.

  1. Can’t agree more. The cafes in the city are a joke! Lousy service and nothing special. And I have been to all of them, Gus, Milk and Honey, Cream. Also love your post on Sammy and Koko Black.. like why?!

For Chinese food, have you tried Ginseng in Manuka? and for your next weekend drive, do checkout woodworks cafe in bungendore?
