Ricardo’s Cafe

In Canberra, it is quite rare to see a restaurant that is always busy. Tucked inside the Jamison Centre (aka Jamison Plaza) in Macquarie, Ricardo’s Cafe is one of those rare places. We came here for the first time when Mat had a business meeting. We only had coffee that time but the pastry case caught my eye and we had to come back.

Look at these beauties!

Over several visits, we tried a variety of pastries.

Caramel Praline Mousse

Chocolate Mousse Cone

Chocolate Raspberry Meringue

French Lamington

Lemon Meringue Tart

Toasted Marshmallows

The verdict: mostly delicious. The only disappointment was the French Lamington – it was just too dry. I was impressed by the numbers of gluten free offerings.

The sweets definitely shine at Ricardo’s but the savory items aren’t bad either. Breakfast is served all day here – good for those who aren’t morning people but still like to have breakfast as their first meal at 2pm.

Breakfast Fritters – crispy potato fritters stacked with bacon, avocado, cherry tomato and rocket. The fritters was lacking salt for my taste. An extra sprinkle of salt brought out the nice hint of curry in them. This is one that I will order again.

Lamborghini Pizza – essentially a Hawaiian pizza. The base of the pizza was too thick for my liking. Other than that, it’s was alright.

It’s been a few months so I think I need to make another trip to Ricardo’s to try a few more pastries….

  1. I can’t wait to go to Ricardo’s this weekend. It’s walking distance from my house. Have you tried Silo in Kingston?
