On a lazy Sunday morning, we had to decide what to do for breakfast, or maybe brunch. I didn’t quite want anything at home but I was too lazy to drive too far. I also didn’t feel like going anywhere we’ve been before. Then I remembered the Early Doors Cafe. We’ve walked by many times and seen it full of people. May as well give this place a try.
There are some outdoor seats but it’s way too cold for that. It would be lovely on a beautiful day though.
Walking toward the counter, I noticed the cookbooks on the shelves. I couldn’t help myself and grabbed one to read while waiting for my food.
Homemade baked beans and poached eggs on toast – it’s not the traditional tomatoey beans. The base of this one reminds me of creamy chicken soup. I noticed some carrots and possible basil. It’s probably the best baked beans I’ve ever had.
Look at that yolk! I just love the eggs in Australia!
Big breakfast – eggs your way, mushroom, spinach, roasted tomato, bacon, sausage and toast. It’s comfort food on a big plate.
I found it strange that our food actually came before our coffee. But it takes time to make work of arts like these. His latte.
While I was finishing my coffee, I noticed a sign for eCoffeeCard on the counter. Armed with my new I-Phone, I looked it up. It’s a free app that you can use in place of the paper coffee loyalty cards at participating cafes. Cool. Downloaded and used.
Before we left, we chatted with the owner, Torben Bilney. We found out about the pasta classes that are held at the cafe at night. He said he’s putting another one together soon. I am so looking forward to that!
I have a feeling that we will be here regularly. Nice folks, great food, cookbooks and cooking classes – it’s a foodie’s heaven!
