On Sundays, the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston is filled with people. A mixture of food and crafts attracts a diverse crowd. Crafts are cool but we all know that I’m just there for the food. And the food did not disappoint.

Before we start shopping, we usually grab a bite or two over at the food court section. It is quite international there as you can find a variety of cuisine, from French to Spanish to Ethiopian to Laotian.
Key Wat (spicy beef) and Chicken Coconut over rice – quite good.
Being from San Francisco, I was reluctant to try the Mexican food here. But cravings got the better of me and I went for it. As expected, I was disappointed. Instead of satisfying a craving, it made me crave the real stuff even more!
Mexican Taco Way Food
Chicken Chimichanga – seriously lacking spice, hot sauce and salsa devoid of taste….
Then, there is our favorite, the French place. The menu there is quite mixed, serving up crepes along with baked potatoes,
croque monsieur along with pizzas,
But there is one thing that is unmistakably French: cannele!
I haven’t been very impressed with the coffee at this market, so I always go for juice at Jo’s.
Orange juice is the most popular but don’t count out the other offerings. My favorite is the refreshingly tart lemonade.
When we’ve had our fill of food, it’s time to shop at the stalls.
Batemans Bay Nut Roasting Company is the place for nut lovers. There are plenty of goodies to sample. If you’re lucky, you may catch them making a fresh batch of caramel macadamia nuts.
The Curious Chocolatier has macarons galore along with couture chocolate that is reminiscent of Vosges.
My favorite place to get a crusty loaf of bread is Dom’s Woodfired Gourmet Bread.
I should try some of those good looking focaccia.
Missing my Persian Lime Olive Oil from Stonehouse Olive Oil in California, I found a great alternative from La Barre Olives. The essence of lemon is captured in the fruity Lemon Olive Oil. Whatever you do, do not leave this stall without a bottle of the divine Blood Plum Vinegar. Your salad will thank you.
The Saucy Spice Co offers a wide range of international spice and herb mixes.
There are other goodies to be found at the Old Bus Depot Market. It will take a few more trips to try them all. I look forward to discovering more good eats there.

Posted by Ultrea | July 22, 2011, 10:49 pmFor whatever reason, we’ve always looked but walked pass that place without trying anything. The one time we wanted some churros, they were out.
